Faro Platinum Arm with Calypso Software from Zeiss
The concept of a portable arm is a wonderful one.  It is by definition poratable and able to measure on the shop floor, in a quality lab or even out in the field!  FARO arms provide the same or better accuracy as hand gauging instruments.  Both large and small parts can be measured with the same FARO arm.  And you can measure everything from simple distance, angle and diameter requirements to complex GD&T callouts like True Position, Profile.
In 2010, two industry leaders joined forces to deliver the best portable arm solution to date.  Carl Zeiss and FARO set a new industry standard in portable measurement by combining Calypso software with the Platinum Arm product line.  FARO Platinum is available as a 6 or 7 axis arm and in size ranges from 6 foot to 12 foot.  It has a scanning probe for improved data collection, temperature sensors for improved accuracy and counter balances for ergonomics.
Calypso software from Zeiss allows manufacturers to easily verify their product quality by performing inspections, tool certifications, CAD-to-part analysis, and reverse engineering.  You can also choose from the Calypso software suite to measure more unique geometry like Involute Gears, Bevel Gears, Pipe and Tube analysis or Tubine Blade and Air Foil inspection.  Simple, complex, common or unique, with Calypso software you can analyze and measure it.

Wireless technology makes using this system practical.  Calypso software is on a lap top and can be moved to any convenient location making it your personal measurement assistant.  A variety of mounting methods allow use of the FARO arm on tables, floors, larger work pieces or even a tripod.
